Does anyone have any ideas of a program that can be used to program the function keys on a normal computer keyboard ?
I have done a bit of Googling and can find ones that will launch an application or program, but all I want is to program the key to type a line of text. For example an email address, or a house address. So that whenever you have to insert that text into an email or letter you just press F12 or similar.
I know that sounds lazy but I thought computers were supposed to save us from the monotonous things in life.
On the old BBC computers it was a doddle.
All thought gratefully received.

How do I program function keys ?
It doesn't seem to be there under keyboard properties, so perhaps you can only do it per application.
I know where to look for Word, but have never tried for email etc

How do I program function keys ?
I may be talking rubbish (I usually do) but wouldn't this be covered by making a "macro" which you could then assign to a keystroke combination.

Sounds good, but where do you do the assignment?
This is the bit I couldn't find, except for specific applications.

How do I program function keys ?
This particular program just seems to swap the keys around on the keyboard, and besides both the links to the download are dead, but thanks for posting the answer as it gave me the idea of Googling 'keymapper' which brought up lots of suggestions.
I think I might have it here http://www.softarium.com/keyremapper/ or here http://www.dev-labs.com/kr/keyboard.html
I will post again when I crack it.
Thanks also to dandnsmith and Wierdstone for your input.

How do I program function keys ?
I ended up with the one from http://www.dev-labs.com/kr/keyboard.html as it seemed to offer exactly what I was after.
It is written by this German guy and sadly the instructions have lost a little in the translation. But I managed to get it working and for a small program it is quite versatile. You can remap any key to any other key or you can have a key produce a series of keystrokes like a macro, which is the bit I wanted. I now have my email addresses on 2 keys and my home and works addresses on another 2.
Thanks for your help.

Indeed we do not condone
Indeed we do not condone this sort of action. I've deleted the previous post you made.
There are plenty of freeware and open source applications available that do this kind of thing. In regards to the original post about pasting in an email address that can be done with a tool like ClipX should anyone want to do such a think now. But as mentioned previously this post is very old.
